Statement Condemning Hate-Motivated Attack at Markham Mosque
As a group dedicated to opposing hate crimes, we strongly condemn the recent incident that took place at the Islamic Society of Markham. The reported actions of a 28-year-old man who entered the mosque and engaged in a hate-motivated attack are deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
The Stop Anti-Asian Hate Crimes Advocacy Group is deeply concerned about the progress of this case. As an organization that advocates for diversity, equality, and inclusivity, we oppose all forms of racial discrimination and hate crimes against anyone for any reason. Our hearts are with the victims and their families.
We must work collectively to promote understanding, respect, and inclusivity, and to combat discrimination and prejudice in all its forms. We urge all Canadians to take concrete actions to promote Canada’s multiculturalism, alleviate racial discrimination in society, and to work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone can live without fear of discrimination or violence.
