Statement from the Stop Anti-Asian Hate Crimes Advocacy Group on the Bondi Beach Shooting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Stop Anti-Asian Hate Crimes Advocacy Group is deeply saddened and alarmed by the tragic shooting at Bondi Beach, Australia. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. No community, in any country, should have to endure fear, loss, or trauma caused by such brutality.
At the same time, we wish to acknowledge and honour the extraordinary courage shown by an individual who bravely intervened to stop further harm by tackling the shooter and removing the firearm. Acts of courage like this remind us that humanity, compassion, and moral responsibility can still prevail even in moments of chaos and fear. We note with respect that this individual is a Muslim, and his actions stand as a powerful reminder that bravery, decency, and the commitment to protect others transcend religion, ethnicity, and background.
Violence must never be allowed to define our societies or turn communities against one another. In times like these, it is especially important to reject hatred, scapegoating, and collective blame. The spread of fear and division only deepens wounds and pushes the world further toward destruction.
Our organization calls for peace, restraint, and solidarity across all communities. We urge leaders, media, and the public to respond with responsibility, empathy, and a commitment to justice, rather than anger or prejudice. The safety and dignity of every human life must remain our shared priority.
The world does not need more violence. It needs courage, understanding, and the collective will to stand against hatred in all its forms.
