Stop Anti-Asian Hate Crimes Advocacy Group Condemns Racially Motivated Incident in Richmond, B.C.
13th February 2024
Richmond, B.C. – The Stop Anti-Asian Hate Crimes Advocacy Group is appalled by the recent incident that took place during a protest in Richmond City on Monday, February 12, 2024. An online video circulating on social media captures a disturbing confrontation between a female protester and a senior resident of Asian descent during a heated argument related to a recent municipal affair.
The City Council of Richmond convened to discuss the possibility of establishing a supervised consumption site for drug use. Unfortunately, amidst the passionate exchange of ideas, the female protester resorted to hurling racial slurs at the senior resident. The inflammatory remarks included, “go back to where you came from” and “You don’t belong here.” Shockingly, she went as far as accusing the senior resident of “The Drugs come from you!”
As an advocacy group dedicated to combating Anti-Asian hate crimes, we firmly condemn such abhorrent behavior. Canada prides itself on being a multicultural and inclusive country that welcomes individuals from diverse ethnicities and backgrounds. Acts of discrimination and prejudice have no place in our society, and we must stand united against them.
It is deeply troubling to witness an incident like this tarnishing the principles of tolerance and acceptance that define our nation. Our advocacy group remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering understanding, respect, and unity among all communities.
We call upon the Richmond community, as well as citizens across Canada, to join us in denouncing acts of racism and discrimination. By standing together, we can create a society where everyone feels valued, respected, and included.
